Its FSU/Miami week. A big one, that could’ve been even bigger if FSU would not have dropped last week’s game to Virginia. We’d be looking at 2 top 10 teams, perhaps even top 5. But its big enough…and both teams have the chance to play spoiler for the other team’s season.
If FSU beats Miami…then Miami's swag takes a big hit. Their season wouldn’t be over, but I think the belief that surrounds their title candidacy would take a real slide backwards.
If Miami wins, FSU would have 2 losses in conference – and a 2 game losing streak – and that week 1 win against Alabama would look increasingly outlier-ish.
But the question is this…is the rivalry what it once was?
Since 1970, the teams have met every year, often with championships or Heisman's in the balance. Wide Right I and II. Ed Reed and Sean Taylor. Bobby Bowden vs. Butch Davis. Recruiting battles that split Florida’s talent pool. Miami leads the all-time series 36–33, including last year’s 36–14 win.
