State of the Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jacksonville Jaguars finished the 2024 season with a 4-13 record, going 3-3 against AFC South opponents.

Rookies WR Brian Thomas Jr. and K Cam Little each set rookie franchise records. Thomas Jr. set rookie records for receiving yards (1,282), receptions (87) and receiving touchdowns (10), while Little set the rookie records in scoring (108), longest field goal made (59) and most field goals made from 50-plus yards (five). Thomas Jr. also received NFL Offensive Rookie of the Month for Dec./Jan., the Jaguars’ first since 2022, and was nominated for the Pepsi Zero Sugar Rookie of the Week eight times over the course of the season.

LS Ross Matiscik and P Logan Cooke were named to the AP All-Pro Second Team. Both additionally received Pro Bowl selections, with Matiscik earning back-to-back recognition and Cooke receiving his first-ever Pro Bowl nod.

Some players that I feel the need to highlight. WR Brian Thomas Jr. completed his rookie season with a team-high 1,282 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns on 87 receptions, finishing first in receiving yards among rookies and third overall in the NFL in 2024. His four 100-receiving yard games are the most in franchise history and the NFL by a rookie in 2024, and his 11 games with more than 75 receiving yards are the most by a rookie in NFL history and tie WR Ja’Marr Chase for second- most in 2024.

Rookie K Cam Little made 27 field goals on 29 attempts in 2024, setting a rookie franchise record and surpassing K Jason Myers’ previous mark of 26. His five field goals from 50-plus yards are the most by a rookie in franchise history and tied for second-most in a single-season in franchise history.

LB Foye Oluokun posted 106 tackles (60 solo), seven passes defensed, six tackles for loss, 1.0 sack, one quarterback hit and one interception in 2024. Oluokun is one of seven players in the NFL with an active streak of five or more seasons with over 100 tackles.

DE Josh Hines-Allen registered 45 tackles (26 solo), 19 quarterback hits, 10 tackles for loss, 8.0 sacks, two passes defensed, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery in 2024. He recorded his fourth-consecutive season with 10 or more tackles for loss, the longest such streak in franchise history.

In celebration of the team’s 30th season, the Jacksonville Jaguars unveiled the team’s long-anticipated “Prowler Throwbacks,” which made their debut in Week 5 against the division-rival Indianapolis Colts and were again worn in Week 15 against the New York Jets. Prowler Throwbacks get their name from the running Jaguar embroidered on the sleeves of the jerseys which also feature a vintage three-color number. The pants feature a teal stripe with gold and black piping going along the length of the pants. The helmets have the original Jaguars logo on the side used by the team in the inaugural season of 1995 until 2013.

Following the unanimous vote of the National Football League team owners in October, the $1.4 billion Stadium of the Future will move forward as planned and the Jaguars will thrive in Jacksonville for decades to come. Through the renovation of the aging city-owned stadium, the Jaguars are committed to developing a world-class facility worthy of Jacksonville’s position as a world-class city, serving its people as the hub for sports, entertainment and community connection.

So, what exactly is next for the club? Ben Johnson is headed to the Bears and their #1 target to take the head coaching vacancy is now off the board. The Jaguars need help on both sides of the ball, and it won’t be an easy fix.

General Manager Trent Baalke will stay with the organization after deciding to keep him and let Doug Pederson go. Baalke and his staff will look to fill those before mentioned holes with free agency and the upcoming NFL Draft. Only time will answer all of these questions as the Jacksonville Jaguars look to get it right for the next football season and bring home some wins for a fanbase that desperately is screaming for a reason to cheer for the boys in teal and black.
