Georgia WR Colbie Young arrested on battery and assault charges

Fox Sports Radio Jacksonville

Georgia wide receiver Colbie Young was arrested Tuesday morning on misdemeanor charges of battery and assault of an unborn child, per Dawgs247

"This is a pending legal matter, we will have no further comment at this time," Georgia athletic department spokesperson Steven Drummond told ESPN.

The Athens-Clarke County Police incident report obtained by ESPN states a 20-year-old woman who described herself as the ex-girlfriend of Young informed authorities she went to his docile around midnight on Tuesday to discuss their relationship.

The conversation became heated following the woman's discovery that Young was on the phone with another woman; the woman then stated that Young "grabbed her left arm near her biceps and triceps and physically pulled her out of his room."

When the woman began to collect her things from Young's residence, the woman told authorities that "Mr. Young came out and grabbed her from behind. She said that he picked her up and began to squeeze her torso and abdomen very hard. She said she felt like [Young] was trying to harm her."

Young's attorney, Kim Stephens, told ESPN, "Colbie Young was arrested last night after he asked his ex-girlfriend to leave his apartment. "He did not make physical contact with her in any way that could ever be considered a crime. I expect Mr. Young to be fully exonerated once our investigation is complete and the truth revealed."

Colbie Young is a senior wide receiver transfer from Miami (FL). In five games with the Bulldogs, he recorded 11 catches for 149 yards and two touchdowns.

The 6"3, 215-pound native of Binghampton, New York, was poised for a big role in the Georgia offense with his experience and versatility out wide.

Young's role was to be heavily called upon following the departure of wide receiver Rara Thomas from the program, who was dismissed following his July arrest for a felony charge of cruelty to children and two misdemeanor charges of battery.

Colbie Young's arrest marks the second Bulldog arrested during the 2024 season and the seventh total player since January 2024.
