Billy Napier Gives Florida Injury Updates

Florida Gators head coach Billy Napier gave several injury updates during Monday's press conference.

RB Montroll Johnson Jr. is still recovering from a knee injury; he underwent a minor procedure nearly two weeks ago.

“Montrell’s doing fantastic," said Napier. "He’s been able to do a few things. We expect him to be able to participate in practice, whether that’s modified and at some point full speed.

"We’ll give an update, obviously we’re getting ready to turn the page into game week. We’ll give you updates per the timeline up until the game, but we have confidence that Montrell’s doing great and feel good about his return.”

Johnson Jr. is considered week-to-week and was seen running on the treadmill during Wednesday's practice. He did participate in Saturday's warmups but left before individual drills began.

True freshman WR Tank Hawkins suffered a shoulder injury during the Gators' second scrimmage on Saturday and is considered to be day-to-day, Napier said.

“Tank, I think is day-to-day. We’ll see where he’s at, but nothing long-term for Tank,” Napier said.

Whispers around Hawkins have eluded to him being a fast riser on this roster throughout fall camp, particularly after an excellent showing in the Gators' first scrimmage, scoring two touchdowns on passes from DJ Lagway.

“He’s had a great offseason,” Napier said. “He's definitely playing faster. His skill level’s improving. He's getting comfortable. Like we've talked about before: we kind of have those top three and then you got this group that's competing. He's in that group.”

According to Napier, WR Ja’Quavion Fraziars is dealing with a lower-body injury; Fraziars did not participate on Saturday and was seen on crutches.

The final injury related to the receivers is redshirt freshman Andy Jean, who has an upper-body injury that "will take a bit of time," said Napier.

Onto the defensive side of the ball.

CB Devin Moore was absent from the Gators' Saturday scrimmage. The prior week, he was seen in a non-contact jersey. His leave of absence can be correlated to an abscessed tonsil issue he's been dealing with.

“We’ll get him back here soon,” Napier said.

Napier and the Gators are expected to release a full injury report before the season-opener against Miami on Aug. 31.
