The Florida Gators knew better than anyone the caliber of player they were getting in freshman EDGE LJ McCray. The 6"6, 275-pound Daytona Beach native received Preseason True Freshman All-American honors from ESPN.
McCray is the No.4 national prospect, No. 1 defensive line prospect, and No.3 prospect in Florida in the 2024 recruiting cycle out of Mainland High School. Big-time recruit for Billy Napier and company.
He also won the 2023 Anthony Muñoz Award, given annually to the best lineman in high school football at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl banquet. It is comparable to the Outland Trophy for collegiate football players. The award was established in 2009 in honor of Anthony Muñoz.
There might not be a more impactful freshman in the country than LJ McCray, who gives the Gators an uber-athletic and high-motor physical freak on the defensive line.
