The Jacksonville Jaguars are reuniting with an old friend in the defensive backfield, signing veteran safety Tashaun Gipson, the team announced Sunday, who started every game in Duval from 2016-2018.
Gipson wasn’t signed to be a starter but to serve as a veteran depth piece. He will serve a six-game suspension to begin the 2024 regular season for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing drug policy, receiving the ban on July 2nd. Gipson wrote that he took a supplement on one occasion that he thought was "completely safe and well within any of the NFL's policies."
During the Jaguars’ 2017 AFC Championship Game run, he recorded four interceptions, seven pass breakups, a fumble recovery, and 64 tackles. Since then he’s started in 33 games over the past two seasons for the Bears, Texans, and 49ers.
The 34-year-old is permitted to participate in preseason activities, games included. Gipson will be eligible to return in week seven of the regular season vs the New England Patriots at Wembley Stadium in London.
