Four-star defensive back Jontae Gilbert has committed to the Georgia Bulldogs and Kirby Smart, per Hayes Fawcett of On3 Recruits.
The 6"1, 187-pounder from Frederick Douglass High School in Atlanta, Georgia, chose the Bulldogs over NC State, Georgia Tech, & UCF. Gilbert is the 16th-ranked cornerback in the nation, the 16th-ranked player in Georgia, and the 135th in the 2025 class per On3 rankings.
Gilbert visited Athens in late May, the middle of June, and in late July. "Georgia competes," Gilbert told On3. "After the official visit to Georgia, things really picked up for me. After that visit, I was talking a lot with the coaches and a lot of the commitments, and that is really when things changed. Coach Williams was recruiting me hard, Coach Smart started reaching out almost daily and that is when I really started thinking I was going to Georgia".
Georgia ascended to the college football mountain top en route to two national championships in the last three years, cementing the program as a national contender every year. This is very important to Gilbert, and he couldn't pass up the opportunity to compete at the highest level.
"There is great competition there every day, and I want to be a part of that. On the practice field, in the weight room, in the film room - Georgia goes hard. They are different and that was a big reason why I committed to Georgia."
Gilbert's commitment marks Georgia’s fifth defensive back commitment in the 2025 cycle. The Bulldogs now have 14 in-state prospects of their 23 commitments in the 2025 class.
Georgia now holds the second-best recruiting class in the SEC just behind Alabama, and the number three class in the 2025 cycle.
Now, the Bulldogs have the second-best recruiting class in the SEC behind Alabama and the No. 3 recruiting class in the country.
