Florida State transfer running back Rodney Hill was reluctant to leave the program after last season. Today, Hill revealed that he had no other choice because an agent hired by his parents had impersonated him in conversations with coaches once the transfer portal opened.
Hill, 5-10, 186, had 50 carries for 190 yards with a touchdown with five receptions for 83 yards and saw work on special teams last season in the Garnet and Gold’s climb to an undefeated regular season.
"Not many people know, but my parents were running my money and stuff like that," Hill alleged. "My parents got a bad agent, and he was texting other schools like he was me, so when that got back to the head coach (Mike Norvell), I had to leave Florida State,” said Hill. During that time when I had to leave, I wasn't trying to leave. I didn't want to leave. So I just had to and the portal was closing up”.
After committing and de-committing from Miami, with the help of Rattlers head coach James Colzie III, Hill returned to Tallahassee and attended Florida A&M to work out and attend classes.
"He knew the situation I was going through," Hill said. "He knew that I really didn't have any part in it. Like, I couldn't help it, so he let me come over there and go there for a few months."
Hill found himself a spot in Fayetteville, as the Arkansas Razorbacks needed another running back after Dominique Johnson and Isaiah Augustave entered the transfer portal after the spring practice window.
His decision to commit to the Hogs on April 19th was influenced by his relationship with fellow running back Rashod Dubinion. Rodney Hill is a native of Statesboro (Ga.), and Dubinion is a native of Cedar Grove (Ga.). The two had maintained a relationship since their high school days when they competed against one another in 7-on-7 camps at Georgia Tech.
"The decision came from just the people that were here," Hill said. "It was a family environment and it gave me the same feeling like FSU did. The people that were here that I already knew like R-Dub and JJ and stuff like that. And I've just been enjoying it."
