TROPICS: Lee Stays Strong, Heading North But Bringing Surf to Florida

MIAMI -- Hurricane hunter planes have flown into Lee and find it still a Cat-3 hurricane with top winds of 115 miles per hour.

It's centered about 350 miles ENE of the northern Leeward Islands and moving WNW at 12 mph. Forecasters believe Lee will get stronger again Sunday and Monday.

The National Hurricane Center says surf from Lee has already reached Puerto Rico, the Virgin Islands, and the Turks and Caicos. The NHC says "dangerous surf and rip currents" are expected to begin along most of the east coast Sunday and Monday and worsen through the week.

Meantime, Tropical Storm Margot is expected to become a hurricane next week, but forecast models show it turning north and staying out in the mid-Atlantic.
