Browns Player Arrested For DUI After Crashing Into Key West Restaurant

Key West, FL - A Cleveland Browns defensive end was arrested on Wednesday night after allegedly driving his SUV into a Key West restaurant.

According to Key West Police, Lonnie Phelps crashed his Hyundai Tucson into the Red Shoe Island Bistro around 9 p.m.

Thankfully, the restaurant was closed at the time and no injuries were reported.

Police say both Phelps and a female passenger appeared intoxicated following the accident.

Witnesses reported that Phelps and the woman were seen arguing after the crash.

An officer's report details Phelps as belligerent and uncooperative, describing him as agitated, with bloodshot eyes and a strong odor of alcohol.

When questioned about the crash, Phelps reportedly offered vague answers and became fixated on paying for damages.

During attempted field sobriety tests, Phelps refused to cooperate, claiming he couldn't perform the tasks.

He also made concerning statements about fearing the officer due to her gender.

Phelps refused to provide a breath sample after urinating himself during the arrest process.

He was taken into custody on a misdemeanor DUI charge for causing property damage.

Phelps, a 23-year-old rookie, was signed by the Browns in 2023 as an undrafted free agent.

He spent the season on the practice squad and never appeared in a regular-season game.

The Browns organization released Phelps following his arrest.
