The overhaul of the Florida State coaching staff is in full swing folks.
After UCF head coach Gus Malzahn stepped down in Orlando to become the offensive coordinator at Florida State this past weekend, Mike Norvell has found his next defensive coordinator, this time dipping into the Big-10.
Nebraksa associate head coach and defensive coordinator Tony White will take his talents to Tallahassee. Coming with White from Lincoln, defensive line coach Terrance Knighton will takeover the same position for the Seminoles. Prior to the announcement, On3 shared early Monday morning that Tony White was the top candidate expected to take the job in Tallahassee, before becoming a reality just hours later.
Coach White is 45 years old and began his collegiate coaching career at his alma mater UCLA in 2007 as a graduate assistant. White spent 2008 as the linebackers coach on the New Mexico staff before becoming the cornerbacks coach at San Diego State in 2009. After two seasons in that position, White was promoted to the quarterbacks coach and recruiting coordinator where he would stay until 2017.
In 2018, White joined the Arizona State staff where he served as the cornerbacks coach initially before being promoted to defensive coordinator for the 2019 season. In 2020, White joined the Syracuse staff where he would have his first defensive coordinator job. After three seasons with the Orange, he followed Matt Rhule to Nebraska where he has coached the last two seasons.
Keep a close eye to see if any starters or role players from Nebraska's roster opt to follow White to Tallahassee, as massive roster turnover is expected for the Seminoles.
