So what's next? Before we answer that question, let's have a quick history lesson. The 2022 season was a "building year". The 2023 season was an "organizational failure". This season cam with promises that have yet to come true. We were told by owner Shad Khan that this is the best team in franchise history. The best team in franchise history is now 2-9. With the latest lost coming from the Lions to the tune of a 52 to 6 loss. The team is beyond struggling and even a novice sports watcher can tell this is more than an on-field issue. So what's next?
Head Coach Doug Pederson's metaphorical seat is now on fire. There is no way a team this talented should be 2-9 and primed for the 1st pick in the upcoming NFL Draft. His attachment to Offensive Coordinator Press Taylor has been beyond frustrating. We were under the impression that the hiring of Defensive Coordinator Ryan Nielsen would bring a change to the woes on the defensive side of the ball. Again, that hasn't been the case. So what's next?
General Manager Trent Baalke has had an abundance of time to possibly try and build a competitive team for this city and this franchise. Many have questions some of his contract moves or lack there of. Multiple people have questioned his unwillingness to be active before the trade deadline. Whatever the case may be, a coach cannot coach a team if he doesn't have the players he needs to win. Is it time to move from the current general manager or does he another shot at building a team that can at the very least compete? So what's next?
Change has to come. Whatever form it takes, this writer is game. This franchise can go forward with the status quo. This city is hungry for wins. This franchise deserves to have better days. None of that matters if the front office doesn't feel the same way or move in a manner that can garner or earn those wins. So I ask you, what's next?
