College football, what a spectacle this sport has been in 2024. It's a season where the Alabama Crimson Tide dominated the Georgia Bulldogs, only to lose to Vanderbilt the following week. It's a season where Iowa State and BYU are 7-0 atop the Big-12 conference. It's a season where Army and Navy are both undefeated.
Then, we see Kirby's Mean Machine enter Austin and dominate the Texas Longhorns after a game in which they sometimes struggled against Mississippi State.
This was Georgia football. This was the intensity, passion, and competitive spirit we've become accustomed to when observing that football team in Athens.
A total boa-constrictor performance saw the Dawgs suffocate the top-ranked Texas Longhorns 30-15 on the national stage.
Bulldog fans saw a defensive performance they hadn't seen all season. This performance reminded its fanbase and pundits across the country that Georgia is still Georgia and the alpha of the SEC.
A Texas offense that came in on fire, splattering every defense that lined up across them, was out schemed, outplayed, and outmanned.
The Longhorns were held to 259 yards of total offense, finishing the evening with 29 rushing yards, four turnovers, and 2/14 on third-down conversions (the first came with 8:20 left in the game). They also gave up seven sacks and ten tackles for loss.
A Georgia defense lacking that same edge we've seen in recent years looked like an absolute Buzzsaw.
Jalon Walker finished the night with three sacks, and Mykell Williams, who is fully healthy, finished the night with two sacks. The secondary played its best game of the season, and it was a gutsy defensive win.
However, Georgia fans can not feel good about its offense and where it stands. Carson Beck didn't need to be great like many thought he would for the Dawgs to win this game, and it's a good thing he didn't because he looks totally out of whack in the pocket.
Beck finished the evening 23/41 for 175 yards and three interceptions. It was the third time in four games that Beck turned the ball over two or more times, and Georgia is 3-1 in those games.
Whether it's throwing behind his guys, misreading coverages, or just forcing the ball into high-risk windows, something is going on there.
Trevor Etienne remains the most dynamic player in this unit. He's come into his own over the last month and proved to be the alpha on this offense. He finished the evening with 19 carries for 87 yards, three receptions for 23 yards, and a hat-trick of touchdowns.
Massive win for the Georgia Bulldogs to put themselves right back in the thick of the hunt for SEC title contention.
The Dawgs are on bye this week before the World's Largest Outdoor Cocktail Party matchup with the Florida Gators in Jacksonville on November 2nd at 3:30 PM ET.
