Jaguars Owner Shad Khan opened this year's season with the statement of "this is the best Jaguars team ever assembled". Which most brushed off as just owner jargon to get the team pumped and ready to go.
However this was statement came after Khan stated that the ball club had an "organizational failure" following the late season decline of last year's team. Now the Jacksonville Jaguars sit at 0-4, last place in the AFC South Division, and primed for a #1 Draft Pick should things continue this way.
There is a lot of blame to go around inside Everbank Field. On field play hasn't been great, lay calling and coaching decisions have come into question, and draft picks and contract decisions have come under fire. So now we ask the question. What's next?
How does this team fix so many problems with so little time to do so. This write has a simple suggestions. Keep playing! Yes, it's an over simplification of things and there is a lot that needs to be addressed. However, what else is it for them to do? Not play the game. That will never be the answer. So now, with so many things going wrong , just play the game.
Now once the games have been played, some decisions have to be made.
Do the Jaguars retain the services of Doug Pederson and company?
That's a hard one to answer. Players love to play for him. He is of course a Super Bowl winning coach. However, outside of that one season, he has had run of the mill teams. Whether or not he still has the locker room is now a question being asked. On top of the fact that he has been given what most would considered a very talented roster and still, he delegates play calling duty to offensive coordinator Press Taylor.
Was it too early to give Quarterback Trevor Lawrence a new contract?
When Trevor Lawrence was drafted, many were under the assumption that he would not only be the QB of the future, but he would be the guy to turn this franchise around. However his first year's head coach was Urban Meyer, they gave him less than to work with in skill positions, and they made it a point to fire Meyer one year after being at the helm. Since then he has led them to one playoff win and tried his mightiest to keep the team afloat. However, at times, Lawrence makes questionable throws and can't seem to get over that metaphorical hump.
Are they losing the fan base?
Duh! They want to see their team win. Having to constantly buy tickets and not see the Jags come out on the good side of the win-loss column has taken it's tole on the faithful few who reside in North Florida,
A commonly used acronym for team is 'Together Everyone Achieves More". This team needs each other right now more than ever. Obviously the powers that be are sitting still until they can come to a decision that everyone agrees on and is the best for the franchise. Until then, we are hoping that the football Gods shine their light on downtown Jacksonville this Sunday as they take on the Colts.
