Amid the Monday Night Football splattering, the Jacksonville Jaguars lost a key player on their defense. Foye Oluokun left the game early in the first half.
According to Tom Pelissero, Oluokun is due to miss significant time with Plantar Fasciitis. He has opted to avoid surgery on his foot.
Oluokun, a team captain in Duval and one of the best pure tacklers in the National Football League, is a massive blow to a defense that just recently underwent a scheme change with Ryan Nielsen being hired as defensive coordinator.
After spending his first four seasons in the league with the Atlanta Falcons, Oluokun signed with the Jaguars as a free agent in 2022.
Since joining the Jaguars, Oluokun has been a two-time leading tackler in the NFL (2022-2023). Before suffering his injury Monday night, he had totaled 22 tackles, one sack, and two pass breakups through the first three weeks of the 2024 season.
With Oluokun's injury, the linebacker room in Duval consists of:
- Devin Lloyd
- Caleb Johnson
- Chad Muma
- Yasir Abdullah
- Ventrell Miller
It has not been stated if Oluokun will go to injured reserve, but given the standard recovery time for Plantar Fasciitis, it is more likely than not, despite Oluokun opting to avoid surgery.
Expect a corresponding free-agent signing at linebacker to be made in the coming days.
