Should the Jaguars Panic?

The Jacksonville Jaguars are now headed into Week 3 0-2 against a very good Buffalo Bills team. After a down slide in the second half of Week 1 and then a complete meltdown this past Sunday against the Browns, some have began to question whether or not this team should be in panic mode or not.

At time, the Jaguars showed glimpses of what we all hope they can be. A talented team with multiple weapons and a defense that can attack from every and angle. The preseason and the first half of the Dolphins game gave examples of a "good" team.

The fallout afterwards would leave any football analyst or fan scratching their head. The way the team executed or didn't against Cleveland left everyone that watched confused about the team's ability to produce as they move forward in the season.

For starters, QB Trevor Lawrence only threw for 16 yards in the first half against Cleveland's Deshaun Watson who was able to get 108 yards in the air. Most of that inefficiency was due to the fact that the Jaguars offensive line could not stand, hold, or block the formidable pass rush of the Browns led by edge rusher Myles Garret.

The longest run in the first half was from Lawrence who able to avoid a the past rush and get down field for 33 yards. The defense struggled with containing what was considered a hurt and back up Browns offense. Missing both starting tackles, TE David Njouku, and RB Nick Chubb seemed to mean nothing as Cleveland offense systematically moved the ball inside "Treverbank Stadium".

Was there a lot bad? YES, and at times fans let out their frustrations via boos or even leaving the game early. However, let's pause on the panic button. While Head Coach Doug Pederson and company are obviously frustrated with their lack of progress, there is still time and dare I say, somethings to be have hope for.

  • Brian Thomas Jr.
    • If there was a emerging star award, he would get it. The rookie wideout has shined thus far. His progress and potential has been a joy to watch and a small sweet spot in the Jaguars' offense which can use all the help it can get.
  • Josh Hines-Allen & Travon Walker are still healthy
    • We have seen and know what these two defensive ends are capable of. While they haven racked up the numbers yet, we know it's coming.

This ball club has its work cut out for them and it has to happen fast. They travel to Buffalo, NY to take on the Bills for Monday night football this week. Only time will tell if this year's version of the Jacksonville Jaguars can get through the gloomy weather and finish the season on the good side of the win and loss column.
