The Florida Panthers defeated the Tampa Bay Lightning 6-1 on Monday evening to win the first round Stanley Cup Playoff series four games to one. For the second consecutive year, the Lightning season ends with a first round playoff loss.
After a scoreless first period, the Panthers built a 2-0 lead midway through the second period thanks to goals from Carter Verhaeghe and Alexander Barkov. Tampa Bay stayed in this game when Victor Hedman scored :59 seconds after the second goal to pull within 2-1.
In the third period, Barkov scored again to make it 3-1 before Evan Rodrigues scored to make it 4-1 Florida. The Panthers added two empty net goals - including a second from Carter Verhaeghe - to make it a 6-1 final score.
Andrei Vasilevskiy finished the game going 33-for-37 in net for Tampa Bay, while Sergei Bobrovsky went 31-of-32 in net for Florida to earn the win.
