Gamecocks expected to name former UGA QB Mike Bobo new OC Today

Former UGA offensive coordinator Mike Bobo will be hired in the same role at South Carolina “barring a last-minute change of heart,” according to The Post & Courier.

“USC can’t officially confirm the hire until a contract has been approved,” per the website. “The Board is expected to do so on Tuesday.”

Some Bulldog fans are hoping that Bobo, 45, can somehow find a way on UGA’s offensive staff, even though the team already has an offensive coordinator in James Coley.

Bobo and UGA coach Kirby Smart are best friends.

For the last five years, Bobo was the head coach at Colorado State, and he was let go after leading the program to a 28-35 overall record.

Before Colorado State, Bobo was an assistant coach for 16 years at UGA under former coach Mark Richt. Bobo also played quarterback for the Bulldogs.

If Bobo ends up at South Carolina, he will replace former UGA receiver Bryan McClendon, who was recently demoted from offensive coordinator of the Gamecocks to the team’s receivers coach.
