The Clemson Tigers just signed Dabo Swinney to the richest contract in college football history.
Swinney has inked a 10-year, $93 million deal to remain the head coach of the Tigers. The Clemson Board of Trustees met to approve the deal just months after bringing the Tigers their second national title in three years.
The new deal makes Swinney the highest-paid coach in college football. Alabama head coach Nick Saban sits in second-place with $8.7 million per year, while Michigan’s Jim Harbaugh ($7.5 million), Texas A&M’s Jimbo Fisher ($7.5 million), Auburn’s Gus Malzahn ($6.8 million) round out the top five.
“I don’t think the board can really capture the gratitude for coach Swinney and the way he has run his program,” Board chair Smyth McKissick said before the unanimous vote to approve the contract.
