The 2019 Players Championship begins on Thursday at TPC Sawgrass in Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, kicking off the 46th edition of this tournament. I
With a prize pool of $12.5 million—$2.25 of which is earmarked for the victor—it’s no surprise that nearly all of the world’s best golfers will be competing this weekend. It’s the largest pot ever offered for a single tournament in the history of professional golf, up 13.6% year-over-year. That number may be eclipsed later in the year by one of the majors, but for now it will stand alone at the top of the prize money list.
This year will mark first time since 2006 that this event will be held in March, getting moved up on the calendar from it’s usual May spot after the PGA Tour opted to overhaul the schedule for this season.
