– Junior defensive lineman Jachai Polite and freshman kicker Evan McPherson were included in the SEC Player of the Week selections, as the league announced Monday.
Polite, named SEC Defensive Lineman of the Week, entered the season with two career sacks. He recorded his first multi-sack game of his career and boasts a team-high four sacks this year. He also added three tackles and a pass breakup. He was part of a defensive line that sacked Mississippi State’s Nick Fitzgerald six times and held the Bulldogs to 202 total offensive yards. The Gators have recorded at least five sacks for the second time in their last three games.
Evan McPherson was named SEC Freshman of the Week after he has made 8 of his first 9 collegiate field goal attempts, adding a 39-yarder and 21-yarder against Mississippi State. He also handled all kickoff responsibilities with four kickoffs for 250 yards. He recorded one touchback and averaged 62.5 yards per kick.
The Gators return to Gainesville for a 3:30 kickoff on Saturday against LSU.
