Gators Dan Mullen: Power In SEC Might Be Shifting To East

Florida Gators head coach Dan Mullen spoke to media on Monday during his time at the Arians Family Foundation Georgia Celebrity Golf Tournament in Georgia, and commented on the power balance between the SEC East and the SEC West.

“I know the depth of the West is always really tough and makes it really  hard, but it seems the power might be shifting to the East. In my nine years in Mississippi, the West won the championship every  single year, and now as soon as I move to the East, two days later, the  East won it again, so I seem to be on the winning side every year.” - Dan Mullen

It's true that Georgia, an SEC East team, won the SEC Championship last season, but UGA eventually got beaten in the National Championship game by Alabama...an SEC West team. The SEC East has been down recently, and last year the division only produced two teams that reached at least eight wins, while the SEC West produced four teams that reached nine wins. At the moment, it looks like the West is still the dominant division in the SEC, and probably will be so long as Saban is at Alabama.
