Jaguars vs Seahawks Recap

The Jaguars were coming off a massive win against the Kansas City Chiefs, and the Seahawks were coming off a close loss to Tampa Bay. Both teams understood their assignment; however, Seattle seemed to want it more. The Seahawks came away with a victory and now the Jaguars will look to figure out who they are.

Game Summary & Key Plays

  • Seattle got touchdown passes from Sam Darnold to Jaxon Smith-Njigba (61 yards) and Cooper Kupp (11 yards).
  • Smith-Njigba finished with 8 catches for 162 yards.
  • The Seahawks defense was dominant: they sacked Trevor Lawrence seven times and applied heavy pressure throughout.
  • Jacksonville had significant struggles:
    • They were penalized 10 times for 76 yards
    • Their running game was stifled: 27 yards on 12 carries for Travis Etienne.
    • They failed to force any takeaways — entering the week, they led the league in takeaways, but got none in this game.
    • Kicker Cam Little missed an extra point and a 50-yard field goal.
  • Jacksonville’s touchdowns:
    • Brian Thomas Jr. caught a scoring pass from Lawrence in the 1st quarter.
    • Tim Patrick caught a 26-yard touchdown from Lawrence in the 4th.
  • A critical late play: Seattle’s Darnold connected with tight end A.J. Barner on a 61-yard completion, which helped seal the game by allowing Seattle to run out the clock.

First Quarter

  • The Jaguars opened the scoring. On a third drive, Trevor Lawrence connected with Brian Thomas Jr. on a 21-yard pass to cap an 8-play, 61-yard drive. That made it JAX 6, SEA 0 with 1:14 left in Q1.
  • That was all the scoring in Q1. Seahawks had only 36 yards in the quarter; Jaguars outgained them 90–36 early.

Second Quarter

  • Seattle narrowed the margin with a 24-yard field goal by Jason Myers
  • On Seattle’s next possession, Sam Darnold → Jaxon Smith-Njigba connected for a 61-yard touchdown, giving Seattle the lead, 10-6
  • Near the end of the half, Myers hit a 53-yard field goal, pushing Seattle’s lead to 13-6 into halftime.

Third Quarter

  • Seattle extended the lead when Darnold found Cooper Kupp on an 11-yard touchdown pass. That made it 20-6entering the fourth.

Fourth Quarter

  • Jacksonville tried to mount a comeback. Lawrence hit Tim Patrick on a 26-yard touchdown to cut the deficit to 20-12 early in Q4. That drive took 14 plays and covered 82 yards.
  • However, the Jaguars had three possessions in the fourth quarter while trailing but generated only one first down total in those drives.
  • With 1:57 remaining, Seattle put the game away: Darnold hit A.J. Barner for a 61-yard reception, which moved them well into Jaguars territory. From there, they just ran out the clock.

The Jaguars head over the pond this week to take on the LA Rams. Only time will tell if Coen and company can turn things around before it's too late.
