The injury bug has taken its toll on that football program in Gainesville. First, it was starting QB Graham Mertz and RB Montrell Johnson, then it was star CB Jason Marshall Jr, then it was true freshmen QB DJ Lagway, and in the middle lies star WR Eugene Wilson III undergoing season-ending hip surgery.
This news was first reported by On3 following Wilson III's sharing of a picture on social media of himself at a hospital on Tuesday.
The injury has been described as a "congenital issue" that has steadily deterioated throughout the course of the season in route to missing last week's game vs Georgia.
"I think Tre's injury has been lingering," said UF head coach Billy Napier on Monday. "It's been an issue he's had for quite a while that we've been navigating. I think at times he's been able to produce and then there will be setbacks."
Wilson is eligible to redshirt for the 2024 season with just four appearances in-game action. He finishes the year with 19 catches for 266 yards and a touchdown.
The Florida Gators (4-4) travel to Austin this weekend for an SEC matchup with the Texas Longhorns (7-1) at noon ET on ABC.
