Jacksonville Jaguars sign cornerback Tyson Campbell to four-year extension

As the football world patiently awaits marquee players like Jordan Love and Brandon Aiyuk to secure new contracts, the Jacksonville Jaguars made a splash move of their own, signing cornerback Tyson Campbell to an extension, making him one of the highest-paid cornerbacks in the NFL, as reported by NFL Media.

Campbell, 24, has agreed to a four-year, $76.5 million contract extension with $53.4 million effectively guaranteed - now the highest-paid cornerback in NFL history to never make a Pro Bowl. The extension comes relatively unexpectedly, as Campbell is coming off the 2023 season in which he missed six games due to injury.

Individuals not keen to regularly watch Jaguar games may see this as an overpay, but it’s not. In 2022, he finished as PFF’s 7th-highest graded cornerback in football, grabbing 9 PBUs, 3 INTs, with just a 58.5% completion rate allowed when targeted. When healthy, he’s a stud.

The 24-year-old former second-round pick in 2021 was set to enter the final year of his rookie contract in 2024, due to be paid just over $4 million this season. The extension ties him to Jacksonville through the 2028 season, joining Trevor Lawrence and Josh Hines-Allen with a lucrative long-term deal and commitment from the organization.
